The 2005 schedule for farming and ranching workshops will feature half-day presentations on the nuts and bolts of farming practices. This year's talks will draw heavily on UCCE Farm Advisors from UC Davis and Cooperative Extension Offices around the state. As usual, the visiting Farm Advisors will be joined by local farmers to make up a working panel. The topics this year are drawn from evaluations that workshop participants filled out over the last three years. Upcoming Workshops Raspberry & Blackberry Growing Marin has a favorable climate for growing caneberries (raspberry and blackberry). These are both high value crops in the fresh market area, and can yield big profits. The UC Cooperative Extension farm advisors from the Central Coast are on the cutting edge of caneberry production and marketing strategy. The advisors are experimenting with sequential mowing for delayed harvest, growing in tunnels and varietal experiments. This workshop will cover basic growing as well as new cultivation methods.
Speakers: Laura Tourte - Laura is both county director and farm advisor for UC Cooperative Extension in Santa Cruz. She has recently completed research and a cost study of raspberry production. Laura will share with us production costs and expected profit, as well as marketing strategies. The Event is sponsored by UC Cooperative Extension, Marin Organic, and Marin Agricultural Land Trust. $10.00 at the door. Refreshments.
