Karen Gray moved into the Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse in 1976. It took ten years of remodeling to restore the historic structure. As a landscape architect she took great care in designing and planting the beautiful gardens that surround the buildings that cluster on the compound: the original Schoolhouse, Jasmine Cottage, the Conference Building, and the barn building that houses Gray's Retreat and the Barn Loft. The antique Shepherd's Wagon was added in 2000. All of the places may be rented together for family reunions, retreats, and small weddings, or rented separately for romantic get-aways. People return year after to their favorite spot on the compound.

A stay at the Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound provides the best of both worlds to guests: a secluded country retreat just a five minute walk from the tiny, bustling town of Point Reyes Station and just five minutes by car to the headquarters for the Point Reyes National Seashore. In minutes guests are on Main Street enjoying the farmers' market, restaurants, galleries, book stores and Tomales Bay Food Co. or hiking the wide open spaces of the National Seashore.
